Class Descriptions & Dress Code

2019 - 2020 Class Descriptions:

Classes for ages 3 - 6 years

Combo Ballet, Tap, Tumbling Class (Ages 3 - 6 years): One hour class combining ballet, tap and tumbling for an unforgettable dance experience. Students will learn to shuffle and plié, among other dance skills, while making friends, learning how to participate in a class, follow instructions, and dance along to their favorite songs.

Bitty Bop Hip Hop (Ages 3 - 6 years): Break out the jams for this one hour class! High-energy hip-hop will give your child a medium to explore rhythmic expression and fitness to grow a lifetime of love for dance. Using new and “old-school” beats, your child will develop his or her own hip hop style.

Classes for ages 6 - 9 years

Ballet, Tap, Jazz Combo (BTJ Class) (Ages 6 - 8 years): One and a half hour class where dancers will enjoy an interactive class that builds on basic movements in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. The Jazz class includes an introduction to proper warm-ups and stretches for the body combined with across-the-floor progressions and mini combinations. The Tap portion of the class will concentrate on building confidence through mastering more difficult rhythmic patterns and steps. The Ballet portion of class includes an introduction to the ballet barre and learning more challenging steps.

Hip Hop (Ages 6 - 8): Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping, and locking. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip Hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina. Therefore, class includes upper and lower body conditioning as well as a rigorous warm-up to help prepare students for more intense movements.

Musical Theater (Ages 6 - 9) This fun high energy class allows dancers to become actors too! Musical Theatre dances to a variety of musical songs; they practice technique while telling a story with their movements. Previous dance experience is helpful but not required.

Classes for ages 9 - 18 years

Ballet (Ages 9 - 18): One hour class where students will focus on building the strength, flexibility and control needed to execute Ballet technique. Each class will emphasize barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations.As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Tap (Ages 9 - 18):​ Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Students will learn a variety of Tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. Exercises will focus on building flexibility of the knees and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasis is on developing proper Tap technique, producing clear sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Jazz (Ages 9 - 18): Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of Jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on Ballet technique layered with traditional Jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Contemporary (Ages 9 - 18): Contemporary is a fluid form of dance with a Ballet/Jazz influence. The dancer is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, motion, and style. A Ballet and/or Jazz class is recommended along with contemporary to assist in building technique.

Adult Classes

 

Adult Tap:​ Tap classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. We focus on a variety of Tap styles from Broadway to Rhythm Tap. The class emphasis is on developing proper Tap technique, producing clear sounds, and having fun. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Adult Jazz: Jazz class will focus on isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. We focus on a variety styles such as Broadway, Classic Jazz and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on Ballet technique layered with traditional Jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.

Dress Code:

Dancers are expected to look like dancers. Hair and dress apparel are to be neat when entering class. No necklaces, bracelets or large hoop earrings are to be worn during class.
 
For Combo Classes:
Dancers may wear pink, black, or tan tights and any color and style of leotard. Skirts are permitted. Pink ballet and Black tap shoes are required.

For BTJ Classes:
Dancers may wear pink, black, or tan tights and any color and style of leotard. Skirts, jazz pants/capris, and hot shorts are permitted. Pink ballet, Tan jazz shoes and Black tap shoes are required.
 
For Ballet Class:
Dancers should wear pink tights and a solid black leotard. Wrap skirts, over tights may be worn per teacher’s discretion. Shoes should be fitted Pink split sole ballet slippers with no laces or laces tucked under. Hair should be secured in a bun.
 
For Jazz, Contemporary and Tap Classes:
Dancers are to insure that their knees, ankles and feet are visible. Hot shorts may be worn over a leotard. Dancers may also choose to wear full length or capri cut jazz pants or leggings. Tights are not required. Any style fitted leotard is acceptable. Split-sole, slip-on Tan jazz shoes are required for jazz and a Black oxford style tap shoe is required for tap.

For Hip-Hop Classes:
Dancers are permitted to wear leggings, joggers or workout pants to class. Hip-hop sneakers or street sneakers are required but must be clean with no rocks or dirt. Street clothes especially jeans are not permitted because they hinder the dancer’s range of movement.
 
Male Dancers:
Please dress comfortably in a solid color pant or dance pant along with a t-shirt or tank top.
